Coastal Calm Retreat

Coastal Calm Retreat is a white house with a green roof on Thella Crescent, four bedrooms sleeping eight, standing on an open lawn at the end of a tree-lined driveway with hills in the distance.

A front porch with white pillars gives onto a brick garden path lined with flowering shrubs, and double doors lead out to it from inside. Parking sits outside a private entrance. The house is detached and low and wide on its plot.

Cowhide rug, wood-burning stove

One lounge is white-furnished with a cowhide rug, a coffee table and a mounted television. Another puts cream sofas round a wood-burning stove on a patterned rug. The kitchen has wood cabinets, a granite counter, a window over the sink, a dishwasher and a small breakfast bar with two stools, opening to a wooden dining table in the next room. A laundry area holds a double sink and a stacked washer-dryer.

French doors from four rooms

Four bedrooms sleep eight and most open outward: French doors onto a deck with hills past it, twin beds with blue throws behind doors to the garden, twin bedside lamps and more French doors, twins beside a built-in wardrobe, one with luggage racks and a corner desk. The bathrooms are plentiful, a freestanding bathtub with a separate glass shower, twin shower stalls over mosaic tile, a twin vanity, a simple walk-in.

The veranda over the garden

A covered veranda holds a sofa and a coffee table looking out across the garden, the lawn open beyond it and a brick path running through the flowering shrubs. There is a braai, a picnic area and a patio.

Thella Crescent and the island

Pets are allowed. The island is level and residential, and everything arriving crosses a single causeway to get here. Steenbok Nature Reserve occupies the northern shore and costs nothing at any hour. If you would rather be catered for, there are guest houses on the island.
