Leeward House - Leisure Isle

Leeward House is a Cape Dutch-style house on George Avenue built in a U around a courtyard swimming pool, so the two wings face each other across the water and the lawn.

A white entrance gate in the boundary wall carries the property name, and a shaded path leads through to a side door. There is private parking, with paved paths through a landscaped garden and an upstairs balcony above the side elevation.

Farmhouse kitchen, four fireplaces

The kitchen is farmhouse in style, a wooden dining table with rattan chairs, a central island holding a built-in wine rack, a fireplace to one side of the dining end. It opens straight through to the living area. There are further living rooms: one vaulted with a fireplace, a television and the pool through the windows, another with sofas and glass doors outside, a third with a corner sofa. A framed ship painting hangs above an antique grandfather clock, and a hallway carries built-in shelving and a study desk.

Plantation shutters and a fur throw

The bedrooms are comfortable and various: a queen with an upholstered headboard and wooden nightstands, one with its own sofa seating and a wall-mounted television, another behind plantation shutters, one with a dressing table and venetian blinds, a bed dressed with a faux-fur throw and folded towels. Of the four bathrooms, one has a freestanding bath with a double vanity and a glass shower.

The pool between the wings

The swimming pool sits in the paved courtyard between the two wings with lawn beside it and a covered patio seating area looking on. A wooden deck runs in front of the house and a large garden tree shades one corner of the courtyard. There is a terrace.

Up the stairs, and out

The stairwell landing has a window looking out to the lagoon and the hills, which is where the water shows from inside this house. The island is level and residential, reached by the causeway on Armstrong Road. There is plenty else on the island to weigh against it.

Fills nicely with

A large family, or several couples, who want a pool in the middle of the house and a fire in most of the rooms.
