Sandy feet Retreat

Sandy Feet Retreat is a Cape-style house on Parkes Lane with a green roof, white gables and green window shutters, standing back across its own front lawn.

Solar panels sit on the roof and a carport runs alongside off the driveway. There is an entrance gate, and an outdoor shower with patterned tile trim just inside it, which tells you what the house expects you to have been doing all day.

Vaulted, with a mezzanine

The living room is vaulted, framed art on the walls, sofas and wicker chairs on a kilim rug, sliding doors through to the patio. A mezzanine runs above it with a landing, a bookshelf and a small table. The kitchen has white cabinetry, a gas stove under an extractor hood, a breakfast counter with bar stools and a terracotta tile floor, and there is a dishwasher and a utility room holding the washing machine, tumble dryer and a second fridge.

Barn door in the loft

The bedrooms are spread across the levels: a twin under a sloped ceiling with its own door onto a balcony, a single with a wooden chair and carpet, a queen with framed artwork, one with a red throw and glass doors onto the garden. A loft room takes twin beds pushed together behind a sliding barn door, a dining table in the open space beside it. The bathrooms run to four, one white beneath a skylight, one dark-tiled, one with a bath under a window.

Loungers out on the lawn

A covered veranda runs along the house with a long dining table under it facing the garden. Sun loungers stand out on the lawn with a basket of towels beside them and a braai not far off. A shaded corner grows agapanthus around a kettle braai, and a second covered patio is set against the house.

Parkes Lane and beyond

The island is quiet and residential, and the Armstrong Road causeway carries everything onto it. Steenbok Nature Reserve holds the northern shore, free to enter and never shut. There is everything else available to weigh up.

Enough house for

A large family, or two sharing, who want levels and corners rather than one big open room.
