Holiday Home -On Leisure Isle near Bollard Bay

This is a four-bedroom house on Recreation Road, wheelchair accessible throughout and entirely on one level, arranged around a covered pergola courtyard you walk into before you reach the front door.

That courtyard holds an outdoor dining table with lawn beyond it, and the front door carries a mailbox and a potted plant. A woven fish ornament hangs on the exterior wall. Parking and the entrance are both your own.

A wall of paperbacks

The open-plan lounge has two sofas facing a fireplace and a television, garden through the window behind, and a whole wall of bookshelves stocked with paperbacks. The dining table seats eight and opens onto both the lounge and the patio, wicker chairs drawn up round it. The kitchen has an island counter, a gas stove, a fridge-freezer, a dishwasher, and a coffee machine and kettle on open shelving.

Striped throws, navy check

Four bedrooms sleep ten: a bright double with a white headboard and striped throw, another with bedside lamps, twin beds under navy check blankets, one with blue cushions beside a white dresser topped with flowers. The three bathrooms include a freestanding bathtub with a tray of flowers and toiletries beside it, walk-in glass showers, a cubicle with a wooden ladder shelf, and one with grab rails fitted.

The courtyard and the benches

A covered pergola patio runs a long dining table beneath open sky, and a second covered patio holds a wooden table with benches and a built-in braai. White wicker armchairs sit out beside the garden. There is an outdoor fireplace and a sun terrace.

Recreation Road and outward

Leisure Isle is low, flat and almost entirely houses, with the Armstrong Road causeway its one way in. The lagoon shoreline is walkable from most of the island. Our guide to the place covers what there is to do on it.
